‘Opportunity Atlas’ provides hard data to deepen community discussion

October 11, 2018 Published by

In Bridges and Getting Ahead we identify four causes of poverty.  One of the research clusters is about “Community Conditions.” The Opportunity Atlas can be used by Bridges trainers to deepen community discussions. Getting Ahead groups can investigate this information when they are in modules 4 and 8.

People are naturally reluctant to leave their hometowns, cities, neighborhoods. Young people are usually the ones to make a move to pursue an education or employment. In Getting Ahead we don’t have an agenda about what investigators (individuals) should do. But Bridges collaboratives can use this information to encourage the community to broaden their search for solutions.

Bottom line: The solutions should benefit those in poverty and others who are struggling to get by…the bottom 50%.
